We are hiring a Field Development Associate to join our Field Development Team and support significant growth in our field development program. This team has the critical responsibility of supporting the R&D, Agronomy, and Sales/​Marketing teams with data and information required for the advancement of product candidates toward commer­cial­iza­tion and for effective positioning of commercial products. Fundamental to the Associate role will be supporting the Field Trial Coordinator and the Field Data and Sustainability Associate with the management of the contract research partners and an extensive small plot and on-farm field trial program. The role reports to the Director of Field Development and is an entry-level position with opportunities to advance as the individual and program develop. Travel will be extensive during the field trial season (May to October) to effectively manage the network of contract research organizations. The position will be based remotely in the US corn belt.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Field Data and Sustainability manager with: 1) managing, analyzing, and reporting field data from field trials designed to achieve company-wide sustainability goals and 2) supporting a comprehensive data management strategy for on-farm field trial programs, and 3) managing relationships with field trial partners involved in sustainability field research projects.
  • Support the conduct of all small plot and on-farm field trial protocols by traveling to field locations to monitor compliance with protocols, to ensure the timeliness and precision of treatment applications and the accuracy and timeliness of data collection.
  • Support the accessibility of data required for advancement of product candidates through the stage gate process, the preparation of regulatory documentation for product registration, and decisions relative to product commer­cial­iza­tion and positioning.
  • Support the planning, coordination, and execution of small plot and on-farm field trials, including the identification of contract research partners and trial locations; trial planting, maintenance, data collection, and harvest.
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships and communication with contract research partners.
  • Develop and track service contracts, service bids, and invoices.
  • Manage and participate in the collection, quality checking, storage, and analysis of data.
  • Prepare reports and presentations that summarize the analysis, conclusions, and interpretation of field trial results.
  • Develop insight into product performance and make recommendations for product improvements based on environmental factors and crop management practices.
  • Support the development and management of a soil and/​or plant tissue sampling program, including providing sampling kits to CROs, identifying appropriate contract labs for sample analysis, and managing results received from contract labs.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field with 3 or more years experience managing a small plot and on-farm field trial program and managing field trial data.
  • Experience managing third-party contractors, including negotiation of contract bids, management of disputes and disagreements, timely accessing data and trial information, building a sense of trust and mutual respect.
  • Working knowledge of the agronomic practices associated with major agronomic and horticultural crops and of the use and application of agricultural chemical products including fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, chemical and microbial biostimulants, etc.
  • Skilled working with software for protocol development and trial design, data management, and data analysis, specifically experience working with ARM software for developing field trial protocols, conducting data analyses, and generating reports.
  • Experience with data visualization software, such as spotfire, and with software platforms used by growers, such as Granular, Climate, etc. is a plus.
