Senior Account Manager

The Business Development team is responsible for driving commer­cial­iza­tion of Sound’s unique on-demand breeding platform across the food and agriculture supply chain. We are seeking a Senior Account Manager who will be instrumental in the continued expansion of Sound’s commercial partnerships, providing comprehensive operational and strategic support to manage successful implementation and on-going alignment with external partner teams. This position is highly collaborative and will work cross-functionally with Business Development peers and other Sound teams such as Research and Development, Legal / Regulatory, and Product Management & Marketing to ensure projects are executed on-time and to the highest degree of quality. This role will report to the VP of Business Development and can either be based in the main office in Emeryville, CA or be remote. The role may include occasional travel (+/- 20%), safety permitting.


  • Ownership of successful partner outcomes, delivering to expectations on time and creating value. 
  • Establish and manage relationships with multiple external partners through the project pipeline and support revenue and impact expansion. 
  • Develop deep understanding of Sound’s on-demand breeding platform to effectively prioritize business opportunities and deliver upon executed partner agreements. 
  • Create efficient and scalable delivery processes to manage a dozen stakeholder expectations at a time.
  • Develop and own communication and project plans for new and existing partner engagements including key deliverables, timelines, and other requirements as outlined in each agreement.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for multiple partnerships, maintaining alignment between internal and partner teams to manage communication, escalation of issues, and stakeholder engagement. 
  • Translate learnings and best practices from past partner projects establishing a continuous improvement cycle that drives better outreach, improved agreement structure, more seamless project execution, and expanded business.
  • Engage across the food and agriculture industry staying up-to-date on industry trends, market conditions, competitors, customer needs, and related information.
  • Where relevant, support the execution of Business Development-related aspects of the partner strategy plan including generating new opportunities based on Sound’s solutions and the customer’s needs.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, with background related to biology, chemistry, or food science a plus. 
  • 5+ years experience in business development, project management, or account management function with direct experience in life sciences, biotech, agriculture and/​or food industries preferred. 
  • Track record of managing a portfolio of technical partnerships.
  • Highly analytical with strong ability to understand and communicate scientific and technical information. 
  • Strategic thinker with high intellectual curiosity excited by the prospect of building expertise across a wide array of topics.
  • Driven team-player with demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in the planning and execution of collaborative projects who enjoys collaborating on challenging problems.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with demonstrated ability to navigate differing priorities and cultivate relationships across all levels of a business both within and outside the company.
  • Self-motivated and organized with ability to balance efficient prioritization and high productivity with creativity and innovation to deliver key milestones on time and to a high standard.
  • Comfort with working independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a willingness to learn new things and tackle a range of challenges and opportunities as they arise. 
  • Experience creating and using presentations, reports, and other communication methods to drive successful projects with proficiency in Google Suites or equivalent platform. 
  • Skilled in leveraging Project Management tools with competency in Salesforce or similar CRM a plus.
