Director, Inside Sales

We are hiring a Director, Inside Sales to manage and grow our team of inside sales representatives (ISRs) who sell our flagship nutrient efficiency product line, SOURCE, directly to large, strategic farmers. The Director, Inside Sales is a critical addition to the company’s commercial leadership team owning all revenue targets for direct grower sales. This role works closely with Field Sales and Agronomy to drive overall revenue for the company. 

This role assumes immediate leadership of an existing team of four ISRs, with expectations to double the team by the end of 2022. The Director, Inside Sales reports to the Vice President, Sales and can be based in the company’s headquarters in Emeryville, CA, or remote across the United States. 

Responsibilities

  • Own direct to grower sales for Sound’s nutrient efficiency business — today two products under the SOURCE brand family in the US, but growing as we launch additional products across crops and geographies
  • Develop and manage a growing team of highly productive ISRs across the US who are capable of high velocity remote sales
  • Lead sales training and enablement for ISRs, leveraging marketing and People Operations
  • Build best-in-class lead generation practices using social media, industry databases and word-of-mouth referral programs
  • Optimize the customer acquisition funnel using a variety of metrics and processes to increase qualified leads, conversion rates and overall deal sizes
  • Collaborate with marketing to create and launch digital and field campaigns to drive awareness for SOURCE across leading US farms
  • Develop and maintain relationships, sales growth strategies and activities with large grower accounts 
  • Ensure grower retention, growth and increased use of SOURCE on the farm
  • Recommend and manage our software stack to support a growing inside sales team
  • Develop and report on key sales performance indicators through Salesforce, Tableau and other analytics tools, in as automated a fashion as possible

Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated success achieving sales and revenue targets, ideally in the agriculture industry; must be able to show results achieved and effectively articulate the sales process 
  • Experience leading an inside or remote sales team in a fast-growth environment; comfortability coaching and mentoring direct reports and colleagues 
  • Track record of exceeding quota at top of sales leaderboard as individual contributor, as well as with a collective team and/​or company quota 
  • Experience introducing and selling product lines that create a new market, vs. established categories 
  • Ability to build rapport and establish trust quickly to excel at selling direct to grower over the phone, vs. relying on in-person activities
  • Experience with a sales operations function with digital tools and data-driven decisions at its core
  • Strong working knowledge of Google Workspace, Salesforce, Slack, Zoom and leading sales automation and analytics platforms (Gong, InsightSquared, etc.)
