We are seeking a Staff Accountant to lead daily accounting operations and facilitate month-end close. This role requires strong analytical and communication skills, as well as a solid technical accounting knowledge to ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP. The staff accountant will play a crucial role in producing financial statements for internal and external stakeholders and creating robust and scalable accounting processes. We are looking for a candidate who is highly organized, self-motivated, and a problem solver. They should be collaborative and capable of independently executing their responsibilities. This role reports to the Accounting Manager and is based in our Emeryville, CA headquarters.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary point of contact for Accounts Payable 
  • Ensure timely processing of requests, vendor invoices, and dispute resolution
  • Own processing employee expense reports and credit card transactions
  • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts
  • Prepare journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations as part of the monthly close. Maintains Sound’s subsidiary ledgers, including fixed assets
  • Perform month-end variance analyses, highlighting areas of concern
  • Collaborate and support the Accounting Manager and external vendors with the yearly financial statement audit and taxes
  • Develop and monitor Sound’s accounting procedures and internal controls
  • Issue purchase orders and credit applications in alignment with company policy
  • Conduct ad hoc reporting and analysis as needed

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field, or equivalent work experience 
  • Knowledge of practical GAAP application
  • Proficiency with GSuite including strong spreadsheet application skills required
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Bill.com experience strongly preferred
